Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to request the services of the Pakistan Rangers paramilitary force for security duty during the upcoming local bodies’ elections in Sindh and Punjab provinces
Sources in the ECP said today that the commission was also considering the help of army personnel as a quick response force during the polls.
The ECP has decided to contact the Defence and Interior ministries in the next few days regarding the polls. A security plan for the elections will be finalised after consultation with the Interior and Defence ministries, said the sources.
For the first phase of the elections, the commission has already started the process of printing nomination papers which is expected to be completed by Wednesday.
