Actor Rajkummar Rao’s Dada poster drew criticism after users questioned its visual quality and claimed the first look appeared artificially generated or heavily edited.
The producers unveiled the poster for “Dada – The Sourav Ganguly Story” on Instagram on July 8, marking former India captain Sourav Ganguly’s 54th birthday. The film will reach cinemas on May 14, 2027.
The image shows Rao recreating Ganguly’s shirt-waving celebration on the Lord’s balcony after India defeated England in the 2002 NatWest Trophy final. Director Vikramaditya Motwane is leading the biopic, while Luv Films is producing it.
Several users criticised the poster’s editing and questioned whether artificial-intelligence software had been used. One commenter said it looked fan-made, while others urged the producers to replace the artwork. The filmmakers did not confirm that AI had been used.
Some reactions directly appealed to Ganguly to withdraw the film rights, while another user offered to redesign the poster. The comments focused on the promotional image rather than Rao’s casting or the film’s announced storyline.
Following the criticism, the film’s social media team shared several fan-created poster designs, offering alternative interpretations of Rao as Ganguly.
Ganguly also shared the original artwork on Instagram and described the first look as a birthday gift. The film will follow his journey from cricketer to one of India’s most influential captains.
