NEW DELHI, India: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi resign on Tuesday after police action against student-led education protests in the South Asian country’s capital.
Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, accused Modi’s government of damaging the future of Indian youth and refusing to debate the education crisis in Parliament.
Gandhi and other opposition lawmakers marched towards Modi’s residence before staging a sit-in nearby. Delhi Police later removed and detained Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Akhilesh Yadav and several other opposition leaders.

Hundreds of supporters remained at Jantar Mantar on Tuesday.

Police used tear gas and batons after protesters breached barricades, while demonstrators accused officers of excessive force. Movement leaders said they would continue protesting until the government addressed their demands.
