The Punjab Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and police, in a collaborative effort, successfully thwarted an attempted attack on Adiala Jail, resulting in the capture of three terrorists equipped with explosives and jail maps.
Rawalpindi Police reported that the operation led to the apprehension of the suspects, who were found in possession of sophisticated weaponry, including explosives and an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), alongside detailed schematics of the prison facility.
The operation was initiated following intelligence about the terrorists’ presence in the vicinity. Hamdani disclosed that the detainees hail from Afghanistan and had intentions to carry out terrorist acts in the region. In response, police and other law enforcement agencies have ramped up search operations surrounding Adiala Jail.
It is crucial to highlight that Central Jail Rawalpindi, commonly called Adiala Jail, is facing significant overcrowding issues. Its population exceeds twice the intended capacity. Designed to house 2,200 inmates, the facility currently holds over 7,000 individuals.
Among the notable figures detained in Adiala Jail are former Prime Minister Imran Khan, the former Foreign Minister, and the former Chief Minister of Punjab, underlining the high-profile nature of some of its inmates.
