The Punjab Government has initiated restructuring measures to enhance efficiency within public sector institutions by deciding to close ineffective entities.
The Punjab govt has formed a special committee to oversee this process, reflecting a strategic move to streamline governance and improve service delivery across the province.
Under the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, a 14-member high-level committee has been established with a mandate to present its recommendations within the next 60 days. The committee is tasked with evaluating the performance of various governmental bodies and proposing necessary actions to optimize operations.
According to official sources, the decision targets redundant, financially burdensome, and underperforming institutions. The aim is to reduce unnecessary overlap within government functions, easing the public’s access to services and reducing the fiscal weight on the state’s budget.
Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb has been appointed convener of this restructuring committee. The committee also includes key figures such as the Minister of Law and the Provincial Finance Minister, Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman, highlighting this initiative’s importance and cross-departmental nature.
The restructuring plan is part of the Punjab government’s broader strategy to improve governance and administrative efficiency. The government anticipates cost savings and a more agile administrative framework by eliminating redundant entities and consolidating functions.
