Sohail Afridi, the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was travelling from Peshawar to Lahore on Friday as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) prepared to launch a fresh street movement.

The party has announced a public gathering at Liberty Roundabout later today, marking the start of its latest phase of protests.

According to an update shared on PTI’s official X account at 2:24pm, the chief minister’s convoy had reached Bhera by that time. Earlier, PTI Punjab chief organiser Aliya Hamza Malik said that Afridi, along with cabinet members and provincial assembly lawmakers, would make their first stop in Punjab at Bhera.

She urged party ticket-holders and office-bearers from the Sargodha Division and Mandi Bahauddin divisions to welcome the chief minister at the location.

Another update from PTI’s Central Punjab account earlier in the day said the convoy had reached Chakri Interchange after passing through what the party described as police blockades. PTI also claimed that a heavy police presence had been deployed in the area.

Sharing a video of party supporters interacting with law enforcement personnel, PTI alleged that police attempted to stop the convoy from moving forward at Chakri.

On Thursday, Afridi said the party would begin its street movement in line with the directives of PTI founder Imran Khan, adding that the campaign would move forward “with full force”.

Meanwhile, Aliya Hamza Malik reiterated that PTI would follow Imran Khan’s instructions to launch a “mass protest movement” in Punjab. She directed party workers, office-bearers, ticket-holders and lawyers in the Lahore division to ensure their presence at Liberty Roundabout to welcome the chief minister.
