Both the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) earlier today, challenged the Local Government Amendment Ordinance in Lahore High Court (LHC).
PTI and PML-Q filed two identical petitions in the court and prayed to declare the ordinance null and void.
In the petitions, both parties stated that it was unconstitutional not to hold secret balloting for Chairman and Vice-Chairman. Independent candidates could not be forced to join any political party, it added.
The petitions further say it was “unconstitutional and unlawful” to make amendments in the Ordinance after the announcement of election schedule.
