The government has taken a decisive step to prevent the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) from escalating conflicts within parliament. They announced that PTI members will be stripped of their parliamentary membership for maligning state institutions.
The Chairman of the Senate and the Speaker of the National Assembly will enforce strict measures to uphold parliamentary sanctity. This includes taking action against any parliamentarian who brings pictures of PTI founding chairman Imran Khan into the legislative chambers.
Acting Chairman of the Senate Syedal Khan Nasir stated that the PTI’s “shameful attitude” towards the state and its institutions is intolerable. He emphasised that his ruling is not political. Instead, it is mandated by the constitution and law.

Nasir confirmed he will send an official letter to the PTI’s parliamentary leader on Monday or Tuesday. The letter will direct the party to comply with the parliamentary ruling. It will inform them of the action being taken against their “undemocratic and illegal attitude.” A copy will also be dispatched to all other parliamentary leaders.
The Senate Chairman issued a clear warning: “No one will be allowed to attack institutions, create disputes with them, or cause chaos.” He declared that the ruling will be implemented strictly with “no concession.”
While noting that such behaviour had been tolerated until now, Nasir stated that senators will lose their membership for any future violations. He added that for continuous breaches of conduct, membership could be suspended for a defined period.
