PTI election commissioner resignation ‘disappointing’ says Imran Khan

“After learning from past experience, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to hold direct intra-party elections”, said Imran Khan earlier today.

Addressing a press conference, he said Justice (retd) Wajihuddin declared previous intra-party election null and void and his decision was accepted by the party.

He said new election commissioner Tasneem Noorani appointed members of the election commission himself and denied the party chairman right of how the election needs to be conducted.

“Making decisions about power centers in the party is not the election commissioner’s job,” he said.

Expressing disappointment over the resignation of the election commissioner, he said Noorani recommended that voting should be done via phones.  “I was not sure of how could it be done yet I asked election commissioner to explain about technicalities,” he said, adding that he was waiting for the response when Noorani resigned from  his post.

“We believe election commissioner’s job is to get the elections done in a free and fair manner,” he remarked.
