President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have stressed the full implementation of the Constitution of Pakistan, saying it remains essential for democracy, justice, and national unity. In separate messages on Constitution Day and emphasised the role of the 1973 Constitution in shaping Pakistan’s political and legal framework.
Both leaders described the Constitution as the foundation of democratic governance and the protection of citizens’ rights. They also said that full adherence to the Constitution would strengthen institutions and support a more stable future for Pakistan.
President Zardari said the Constitution reflects Pakistan’s democratic identity, federal balance and commitment to citizens’ rights. He added that leaders such as Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto shaped it through their political vision and helped define the country’s constitutional direction
He also said the Constitution is not just a legal document. Instead, he described it as a guiding principle for day-to-day governance and said democracy and justice can only be upheld through complete adherence to it. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described the Constitution as a sacred pact between the state and its citizens. He said it defines the legal and moral rights and responsibilities of both sides.
The prime minister noted that the 1973 Constitution laid the foundation for a parliamentary democratic system and a strong administrative structure. He added that it protects fundamental human rights and provides the legal framework needed for their implementation.
Shehbaz Sharif also praised Pakistan’s federal system and the role of provincial units in promoting national unity, economic development, and prosperity. He expressed confidence in the country’s future and linked that optimism to constitutional continuity. The broader message from the leadership was that constitutional order remains vital to public accountability, transparent governance, and political stability.

Other senior leaders also underlined the importance of the Constitution on the occasion. These included PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, and National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.
They said the Constitution supports democratic stability, transparency, public accountability, and national cohesion. Their remarks reinforced the wider political emphasis on constitutional implementation as a national priority.
