President Arif Alvi approved the appointment of Lieutenant General Asim Munir as the next Chief of Army Staff and Lieutenant General Sahir Shamshad Mirza as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee on Thursday.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has chosen Lt. Gen. Munir to replace General Qamar Javed Bajwa as the next army chief of Pakistan, the government announced earlier today, putting an end to rumors.

Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb confirmed on Twitter that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had appointed Lt Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza as CJCSC under his constitutional authority.
