The Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif has granted his  approval to fresh  guidelines for foreign postings including those of Pakistani envoys, attaches, embassy staff and others purely on the basis of merit.

According to sources, and under the new policy the candidates will be put through an examination consisting of written test (80 percent marks) and interview (20 percent marks).

Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) and Institute of Business Administration (IBA) will conduct the written tests of the candidates aspiring for postings abroad while the interviews will be carried out by a selection committee set up by the Prime Minister.

Only the candidate with highest marks will be given the option to choose the station of his choice.

Under the new policy, there will be no extension in service after the appointments. However, this policy will not be applicable for postings of the personnel for security, defence and intelligence services.

The government will inform the concerned departments about the vacancies falling vacant outside the country.

An officer will be allowed foreign positing not more than twice during his service in the same cadre.
