Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a new support package for Pakistan’s key economic sectors. The ‘Roshan Maeeshat Bijli Package’ aims to boost the industrial and agricultural sectors.
The announcement was made during a meeting with business leaders and sector experts in Islamabad. The package will provide cheaper electricity, helping reduce operational costs
The core of the package is a subsidised electricity rate. For the next three years, industries and farmers will be able to purchase additional power units at a reduced price. The new subsidised rate is set at Rs. 22.98 per unit. This is a major reduction from the current rates.
Industries currently pay around Rs. 34 per unit. The agricultural sector pays about Rs. 38 per unit. The new package will substantially lower the cost of additional electricity for both groups.

The Prime Minister highlighted the package’s main objectives. He stated that industrial and agricultural growth is vital for the economy. It creates jobs and improves the country’s competitiveness.
He referred to a similar package from the previous year. That initiative led to an extra 410 gigawatts of electricity consumption. This helped drive industrial output, increase exports, and create employment.
The Prime Minister acknowledged the difficult journey from economic crisis to stability. He credited the hard work of the economic team and stakeholder cooperation. He expressed hope that this initiative will help Pakistan move away from its reliance on loans. The goal is to build a self-sufficient economy powered by a strong private sector.
