Patrick Muldoon Dies at 57 After Reported Heart Attack

Patrick Muldoon died at 57 after a reported heart attack, bringing to a close a television and film career that made him a familiar face to 1990s audiences.

The American actor became best known for his roles as Austin Reed on Days of Our Lives, Richard Hart on Melrose Place, and Zander Barcalow in Starship Troopers. He died at home on April 19 after suffering a heart attack.

People reported that Muldoon died suddenly on Sunday, April 19, at the age of 57, with multiple outlets reporting that the death followed a heart attack.

His death has drawn attention because he remained active professionally. People reported that he had recently posted about a new film project in Australia just two days before his death.

Muldoon’s breakthrough came on Days of Our Lives, where he played Austin Reed from 1992 to 1995. The role helped establish him as one of the decade’s better-known television actors.

He later appeared in Melrose Place as Richard Hart, a role that further strengthened his profile during the peak years of primetime drama. His work in the 1997 film Starship Troopers, where he played Zander Barcalow.

Muldoon also worked as a producer and explored music as a member of The Sleeping Masses. Over more than three decades, he built a career across television, film and music.

People also noted that tributes began appearing after news of his death, including a post from actor Jake Getman, who remembered him as a positive presence on set.

Although his film work never fully matched his television fame, Muldoon remained closely associated with a generation of American screen actors who defined popular series in the 1990s. A versatile performer whose career left a lasting mark across different parts of the entertainment industry.

His death is likely to be felt most strongly by viewers who knew him from daytime television, primetime drama and cult science-fiction cinema.
