Patches, the 40-Pound Cat, Finds a Loving Home

A Virginia cat named Patches, whose weight is equivalent to that of an average four-year-old child, is gaining attention. The feline, characterized by the black markings on its white fur, was put up for adoption by Richmond Animal Care and Control.

The shelter took to Facebook to appeal to potential adopters, saying, “Did you wake up today thinking, ‘I want to adopt the largest cat ever?’ If so, we have the perfect cat for you.” The shelter described Patches as “very sweet,” He explained that he follows a specialized diet and exercise plan.

After the post featuring the cat’s unique markings and grey tail went viral, Kay Ford adopted Patches. She was captivated by his online pictures and knew he was the one for her. “As soon as I saw the photo of Patches, I knew I had to go and get him. I knew there would be nine billion people falling in love with him all at once,” she said.

Richmond Animal Care and Control shared a photo of Patches with his new owner and a video of the hefty feline being carried in a carrier, captioning it, “40 lbs of LOVE right there.” Ms. Ford posted a picture of Patches in his new home, where he has another cat and a small dog for company.
