The wedding of Anant Ambani, the son of Asia’s wealthiest person, Mukesh Ambani, drew widespread attention for its glittering guest list and because several Indian celebrities chose outfits by Pakistani designers for the festivities.
The event attracted Hollywood and Bollywood stars, top athletes, and business magnates. While no prominent Pakistani figures attended, the fashion creations of Pakistani designers Iqbal Hussain, Faraz Manan, and Mohsin Naveed Ranjha were prominently featured.
Celebrities such as Sara Ali Khan, Alia Bhatt, Canadian singer AP Dhillon, and Indian cricketer Hardik Pandya showcased these designers’ work. Bhatt was particularly noted for wearing a black Faraz Manan dress at the Sangeet ceremony, which garnered positive reactions on social media.
Sara Ali Khan appeared in an olive-green dress by Iqbal Hussain for the ‘Shubh Vivah’ ceremony and later in a golden lehenga by the same designer for the ‘Shubh Aashirwad’ event, although her failure to credit the designer sparked criticism on Twitter.
Pandya opted for a light pink ensemble by Manan, and Manan also dressed Dhillon.
The wedding celebrations, which concluded with a reception on Sunday, took place in Mumbai at a 16,000-capacity convention centre owned by the Ambani family conglomerate. Following months of pre-marriage celebrations, the festivities marked a new high in wedding extravagance.
Earlier this year, the couple hosted a party at the Ambani ancestral home, featuring performances by R&B star Rihanna and Justin Bieber. The event attracted high-profile guests, including Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg and Ivanka Trump.
