A high-level delegation headed by Defence Minister Khawaja Asif arrived in Kabul and met with acting deputy prime minister Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar.
The relationship between the two nations deteriorated due to the Tehreek-e-Pakistan’s (TTP) increased terrorist attacks based in Afghanistan.
According to a statement released by the Foreign Office released on Wednesday, the high-ranking delegation will meet with Afghan officials to discuss security-related issues, including counterterrorism measures.
The delegation includes the head of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Lt. Gen. Nadeem Ahmed Anjum, Mohammad Sadiq, Pakistan’s special Afghanistan representative, Asad Majeed Khan, the foreign secretary, and Ubaid Ur Rehman Nizamani, the head of the Kabul mission.
Following State Minister for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar’s visit in November 2022, this is the first gathering of the two countries top leaders.
The visit follows the closure of the Torkham border crossing by the Afghan government due to a dispute over people entering Pakistan without proper documentation. When the Afghan Taliban opened fire at a border, a Pakistani soldier also received injuries.
At the Torkham border, a senior Pakistani government official stated, “The Afghan border officials made it an issue, saying Pakistani authorities should allow the patients and their attendants without visas or legal travel documents to enter Pakistan for treatment in Peshawar or elsewhere. “
After the suicide attack on the Peshawar police lines, it was decided to bolster security measures by requiring Afghan citizens to carry travel documents.
The two parties discussed the meeting in detail, according to a separate statement from the office of the Afghan deputy prime minister.
