ISLAMABAD: Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik promised on Tuesday that the government will ensure piped gas during peak winter months.
Speaking at a press conference, Malik said authorities will supply gas for three daily meals through December and January. The government will buy high-cost liquefied natural gas if needed to meet domestic demand.
The promise comes as border closures with Iran disrupted bottled gas supplies. Prices for alternative fuel jumped to Rs800 per kilogram in some open markets, hitting home cooks and rickshaw drivers.
“Even better news will come before us,” Malik said regarding upcoming petrol and diesel price updates, pointing to lower international oil rates.

Malik added that past governments failed to build fuel storage facilities or expand local refineries. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif led a meeting earlier on Tuesday to rebuild the country’s energy setup from scratch.
