Pakistan, US discuss ways to enhance cooperation in defence sector

Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry met with US Deputy National Security Advisor Avril Haines at White House in Washington today.

They reviewed the entire gamut of Pak-US relationship and expressed satisfaction on the overall positive trajectory in the bilateral cooperation. They reaffirmed that the strategic cooperation was based on mutual interest, respect and understanding.

Both sides underscored their mutual desire to work towards a broad-based and comprehensive Pakistan-US partnership aimed at achieving peace, security and prosperity for the two peoples.

Avril Haines appreciated the economic progress made by Pakistan and the role played by Pakistan in promoting peace and security in the region. Both sides recognized the need to closely work together for securing peace, stability and sustainable development in the region.

Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry also met with Acting Administrator USAID Alfonso Lenhardt in Washington DC today. The two reviewed the state of economic collaboration and USAID work and assistance projects in Pakistan.

The Foreign Secretary expressed deep appreciation for the US cooperation particularly in the economic and social sectors.

The Foreign Secretary appreciated the US support to mega hydel projects such as Diamer-Bhasha, Dasu and Gomal Zam projects.

Acting Administrator Lenhardt renewed the U.S. commitment to help Pakistan in overcoming energy crisis.
