Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch emphasized the urgent need for the United Nations Security Council to take action in Gaza. She advocated for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire to protect the people of Gaza from potential genocide, underscoring the severity of the situation.
Baloch strongly condemned Israel’s use of force and its attacks on civilians in Gaza, violating international humanitarian law. Echoing the UN Secretary-General’s concerns, she highlighted the dire security and humanitarian situation in Gaza.
Baloch also called for an international conference to achieve long-term peace in Palestine, advocating for a two-state solution with a sovereign state of Palestine based on pre-June 1967 borders.
Diplomatic Engagements and Regional Issues
The spokesperson discussed the series of visits by senior US officials to Pakistan, including discussions on Afghanistan and bilateral cooperation. Addressing the situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), she reiterated that any process outside UN resolutions and the Kashmiri people’s aspirations is invalid.
Baloch also informed that the Torkham border gate issue was resolved, demonstrating effective bilateral engagement. On Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s situation, she assured that Pakistan has repeatedly requested the US to ensure Dr. Siddiqui is not subjected to abuse, emphasizing the government’s commitment to her well-being.
