The Pakistan Street Child football team entered the semi-finals of the Street Child World Cup here after defeating the Philippines in a penalty shootout. The match was tied at 1-1 at full-time and the Pakistani street children broke the deadlock in their favour by scoring three goals in the penalty shoot-out against the Philippines’s two.
The Pakistani team opened their World Cup campaign with a bang. They defeated defending champions India 13-0 in the opening match and beat Kenya 2-0 in the second match. The Street Child World Cup is held ahead of the FIFA World Cup and aims to bring together disadvantaged children from across five continents. Through football, art and campaigning, they try to change the negative perception towards street children around the globe.
