ISLAMABAD: A second Pakistan Qatari LNG cargo this month has crossed the Strait of Hormuz and is heading to Port Qasim, providing another shipment for the country’s constrained gas and power system.
Reuters shipping data identified the vessel as the Shandong Redwood, which loaded liquefied natural gas at Qatar’s Ras Laffan port and exited the Strait of Hormuz on September 19 while bound for Pakistan.
A Petroleum Division official confirmed that the cargo is expected to reach Port Qasim within days. Officials said it was secured at a price equivalent to 13.37% of Brent crude under Pakistan’s LNG supply arrangement.
Pakistan received its first Qatari LNG shipment of September on September 10, when the carrier Al Marrouna delivered about 81,936 metric tonnes from Ras Laffan after crossing Hormuz on September 7.

The second delivery comes as domestic gas supplies face interruptions. Transmission data for September 21 showed system line-pack at 4,792 MMcf, while the power sector was consuming about 208 MMcf per day.
Gas input has also been reduced at the MEL GTH, Nashpa and MOL CPF facilities, while raw gas supplies from Qadirpur to Liberty Power have remained suspended since September 17 over non-payment. Officials said.
