ISLAMABAD: Pakistan secured three INSO 2026 medals, including one gold and two silver, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Organisers also selected Pakistan to host the fourth competition in 2027.
Muhammad Ali of Government College University Lahore won the gold medal. Muhammad Usman of F.G. Sir Syed College, Rawalpindi, and Seerat Fatima Bhatti of Nixor College, Karachi, claimed silver medals.
Syed Shuja Haider of Sundar STEM School, Lahore, also represented Pakistan at the third International Nuclear Science Olympiad.
The weeklong competition brought together about 120 students and scientific specialists from 19 countries. Participants included representatives from China, Japan, Russia, Türkiye, Malaysia, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia.
The official INSO website said the International Atomic Energy Agency supported the competition. Saudi institutions hosted the event at King Abdulaziz University.
The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission selected the team through the Pakistan Nuclear Science Olympiad. The PAEC Directorate of Education and Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences jointly conducted the selection process.
PIEAS faculty then provided specialised training and mentoring before the Pakistani students travelled to Saudi Arabia.
Organisers announced Pakistan as the host for 2027 during the closing proceedings. PAEC official Dr Muhammad Maqsood and PIEAS representative Dr Sajjad Tahir received a commemorative memento in recognition of the selection.
