Pakistan’s military shot down five Indian aircraft and a drone in self-defence, while destroying enemy posts along the Line of Control (Loc), security sources confirmed. The decisive response follows India’s airstrikes on Pakistani territory, escalating tensions post-Pahalgam attack.

On May 7, 2025, Pakistan’s armed forces downed five Indian Air Force jets: three Rafales, one Mig-29, and one SU-30 along with a Heron drone, after they violated Pakistani airspace during India’s airstrikes, security sources told Dawn.

The Pakistan Air Force also obliterated several Indian posts along the LoC, delivering a “befitting reply” to what sources called India’s “cowardly attack.” The strikes targeted civilian areas in Punjab and Azad Kashmir, killing eight and injuring 35, per ISPR’s Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry.

Pakistan’s swift defence, lauded on X for its precision, secured its airspace, with no losses reported. The response follows India’s May 6 missile attacks on Kotli, Muzaffarabad, and other cities, condemned as unprovoked aggression amid fallout from the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which killed 26, per Reuters.

Escalating India-Pakistan Tensions

The Pahalgam attack in Indian-administered Kashmir prompted India to baselessly accuse Pakistan, leading to retaliatory measures like suspending the Indus Waters Treaty and closing airspace, matched by Pakistan’s trade bans and airport closures.

According to Bloomberg, Iran and the UN have called for de-escalation, with Moody’s warning of economic risks to both nations. Pakistan’s downing of advanced Indian jets underscores its military readiness, escalating a crisis that risks nuclear-armed conflict.

Pakistan’s downing of five Indian jets and a drone on May 7, 2025, in response to India’s airstrikes marks a dangerous escalation in the post-Pahalgam crisis. Destroying Loc posts, Pakistan asserts its defence, but civilian losses fuel urgency for de-escalation. The world watches as South Asia teeters on the edge.
