Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar launched Pakistan’s first Google Chromebook assembly line on Tuesday. He called the event a “defining moment” for the country’s digital future.
The launch event, titled “Building the Digital Future, Together,” included federal ministers, IT experts, and representatives from Google.
Dar stated that producing Chromebooks locally will make digital tools more affordable and accessible. This is especially important for schools and students across Pakistan.
He highlighted the project’s significant economic potential. The assembly line will create new jobs, develop local supply chains, and pave the way for future technology exports.
“From the launch of Pakistan’s first Chromebook assembly line to Google’s announcement of establishing a local presence in Pakistan… this is a defining moment,” Dar said.

The deputy prime minister stated that this move will directly connect Google with Pakistan’s tech community. It will foster collaboration with local developers, startups, and entrepreneurs.
He assured Google of a positive investment environment. “Let me assure you… You won’t regret setting up all this in Pakistan,” Dar stated. A key part of the partnership is a new skills program. Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Google and Pakistan will collaborate to provide artificial intelligence (AI) training for 100,000 developers in the country.
