Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has pledged to strengthen Pakistan-EU relations while felicitating Italian President Sergio Mattarella and the Italian people on Republic Day.
According to the President’s Secretariat, Zardari said Pakistan values its long-standing and friendly relations with Italy. He said both countries share mutual trust, cooperation and a commitment to peace.
The president expressed confidence that ties between Pakistan and Italy will continue to grow in strength and substance in the years ahead.
He also said Pakistan attaches great importance to engagement with the European Union. Moreover, he praised Italy’s constructive role in the EU, promoting cooperation, dialogue and international stability.

Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to expanding Pakistan-EU cooperation in areas of mutual interest, the statement said.
Italy marks Republic Day on June 2 each year. The national holiday commemorates the 1946 referendum that ended the monarchy and established the Italian Republic.
