Pakistan retained the world’s top position in the Erasmus+ Pakistan Scholarships for a fifth straight year, with 98 students selected in the 2026 cycle.
Official Erasmus+ selection-cycle data showed Pakistani students secured the highest number of fully funded Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters scholarships.
Bangladesh ranked second with 80 scholarship recipients, followed by India with 75. The United States secured 68 scholarships, and Italy completed the top five with 67 winners.
The European Union-funded Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters programme awarded 1,872 fully funded scholarships to students from 135 countries in the latest cycle.
The programme allows selected students to pursue joint master’s degrees at multiple European universities. It covers tuition, travel, visa costs and living allowances.
Pakistan also led the programme in recent years. In 2025, 114 Pakistani students won Erasmus+ Joint Masters scholarships from 2,176 selected candidates across 137 countries.

In 2024, Pakistan produced 189 Erasmus Mundus scholarship winners out of 2,603 students selected worldwide from 137 countries.
The Erasmus Mundus programme supports academic mobility and cross-cultural learning through postgraduate study across Europe under the European Union’s Erasmus+ framework.
