The nation is celebrating Pakistan Day on Sunday, March 23, with a renewed commitment to transforming the country into an Islamic welfare state as Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah envisioned.

Pakistan Day marks the anniversary of the Lahore Resolution, passed on March 23, 1940, which laid the foundation for a separate homeland for the Muslims of the Subcontinent.

Traditional Celebrations and Gun Salutes

The celebrations commenced with a 31-gun salute in Islamabad and 21-gun salutes in the provincial capitals. Following the Fajr prayers, special prayers were offered for the nation’s progress, prosperity, and unity.

This year, the venue for the Pakistan Day parade shifted from its traditional location at Shakarparian Parade Ground to Aiwan-e-Sadr. President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the chiefs of military services, and other dignitaries were present at the event.

In their separate messages, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated their commitment to building a stronger, more prosperous, and progressive Pakistan.

President Zardari emphasized the importance of national unity, urging Pakistanis to rise above differences, reject division, and work together for an inclusive and just society. He highlighted that Pakistan’s true strength lies in its people, whose resilience and patriotism have helped the nation overcome challenges.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reflected on the significance of Pakistan Day as a defining moment in the history of South Asia’s Muslims. He underscored the need for economic prosperity and global recognition, achievable through the right policies, dedicated efforts, and national unity.

With Pakistan Day coinciding with Ramadan this year, the prime minister called for a renewed commitment to faith, sacrifice, and perseverance, which remain at the core of the nation’s foundation.
