On August 17, 2025, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced a 17-member squad for the upcoming UAE Tri-Series and Asia Cup 2025, retaining all-rounder Salman Ali Agha as captain.

The squad features a strong mix of experience and emerging talent. Senior players include Fakhar Zaman, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Haris Rauf, while Saim Ayub, Khushdil Shah, Hussain Talat, and Hasan Nawaz represent the next generation of Pakistani cricket.

Squad List:

  • Captain: Salman Ali Agha
  • Senior Players: Fakhar Zaman, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf
  • Young Talent: Saim Ayub, Khushdil Shah, Hussain Talat, Hasan Nawaz
  • Other Members: Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Wasim Jr, Mohammad Haris (wicket-keeper), Abrar Ahmed, Faheem Ashraf, Hasan Ali, Sahibzada Farhan, Salman Mirza, Sufyan Moqim

PCB aims to balance experience with youth to build a cohesive lineup. The squad reflects this strategy, nurturing new talent while relying on proven performers.

Pakistan will compete against Afghanistan and the UAE in the Tri-Series from August 29 to September 7 in Sharjah. The Asia Cup follows in Abu Dhabi and Dubai from September 9 to 28. These tournaments are crucial for Pakistan as the team seeks to build momentum after criticism of its senior players’ recent performances.

Mohammad Hafeez recently highlighted concerns about the form of Babar Azam and Rizwan, praising players like Agha and Ayub for their consistency. The squad’s performance in these events may impact Pakistan’s standing in Asian cricket and shape the selection process for future competitions.

With this blend of youth and experience, PCB targets strategic growth and hopes to strengthen the team’s position in international cricket. Success on this stage could help redefine Pakistan’s cricketing future
