On July 25, 2025, Pakistan officially joined the global AI landscape by launching the Pakistan Chapter of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) at the Pearl Continental Hotel in Lahore. More than 200 C-level executives, academics, and dignitaries attended the event, which was chaired by Muhammad Tahir. The chapter aims to provide access to global AI resources and promote economic growth.

Muhammad Tahir, the AAAI Pakistan Chair, announced, “This marks Pakistan’s entry into the global AI ecosystem.” The newly established chapter offers access to over 15,000 AI research papers, opportunities for university collaborations, startup funding, and hackathons, as well as the possibility of hosting an AAAI Regional Conference. The event also featured an AI-generated video of AAAI founder Jack McCarthy, symbolising Pakistan’s historic affiliation with the organisation.

Dr. Yasar Ayaz, NCAI Chairman, called it a “game-changing moment,” noting: “Pakistan’s AI capabilities will now gain global recognition.” Microsoft’s Jibran Jamshad added, “AAAI’s influence drove breakthroughs like ChatGPT. Pakistan’s talent will now join the global narrative.” Government and military officials underscored the event’s national importance.

The chapter aims to generate over $200 million in AI-driven economic impact through innovation and entrepreneurship. It fosters international academic ties, offering Pakistani researchers and startups global exposure. The official website, www.aaai.pk, will launch on August 14, 2025, offering membership and research access.

Pakistan’s AI push aligns with its economic strides, as evident in a $2.1 billion FY25 current account surplus. The AAAI chapter complements initiatives like FBR’s Rs1.02 trillion tax collection, signalling technological and fiscal ambition. Social media buzz on X hailed it as “Pakistan’s AI revolution begins!”
