The process of repatriating illegal immigrants, predominantly from Afghanistan, has been ongoing, with a total of 207,758 individuals having returned to their homeland as of November 09.
On November 09, 4,119 Afghan nationals, comprising 702 families, made the journey back to Afghanistan across the Chaman and Torkham border crossings. The returning Afghan families, including women and children, were provided with complimentary transportation from the Landi Kotal holding camp to the Torkham border, facilitating their safe passage.
A spokesperson stated that 2,975 illegal immigrants were also repatriated through the Angor Ada crossing in South Waziristan, highlighting the authorities’ push for voluntary repatriation.
Concurrently, Pakistan has extended the stay of registered Afghan refugees for an additional six months. This extension was approved by the caretaker federal cabinet and recommended by the foreign office and interior ministry.
The previous tenure, set to expire on June 30, 2023, has now been extended to December 31, ensuring that registered Afghans and their families can remain in Pakistan legally for the duration.
