High refresh rates have become a defining feature for premium smartphones. As 2026 begins, OnePlus appears ready to push display technology even further. Industry leaks suggest the company’s next flagship, likely to be called the OnePlus 16, could introduce the highest refresh rate ever seen on a smartphone.

According to information from reliable sources, OnePlus is testing an ultra-high refresh-rate panel that could reach at least 200Hz. If confirmed, this would mark a major leap from current flagship standards and set a new benchmark for smartphone displays.

While OnePlus has not officially confirmed the specifications, reports indicate that a 240Hz display is also being explored as an upgrade option. Even so, a 200Hz display alone would be groundbreaking. No commercially available smartphone currently offers such a high refresh rate.

In real-world use, the benefits of extremely high refresh rates are most noticeable in fast animations, scrolling, and gaming. However, most mobile games and applications do not yet fully support refresh rates beyond existing limits. It is also unclear whether users will be able to force apps to run at the maximum refresh rate manually.

This potential display breakthrough comes alongside broader hardware advancements in the smartphone industry. In particular, the adoption of silicon-carbon battery technology is enabling higher battery capacities while keeping power consumption under control. These improvements could help mitigate concerns about increased battery drain from ultra-high refresh-rate panels.

If the rumoured development materialises, the OnePlus 16 could deliver the smoothest visual experience ever offered on a smartphone. Combined with next-generation battery technology, a 200Hz display may enhance everyday use without compromising endurance. This would reinforce OnePlus’s reputation for performance-focused innovation.
