The federal government of Pakistan has begun steps to vacate One Constitution Avenue in Islamabad after the Capital Development Authority cancelled the property’s lease, residents said.
Residents of the Constitution Avenue building said police officials visited the premises late at night and instructed occupants to vacate by this evening.
The move followed the Islamabad High Court’s dismissal of petitions filed by a private company and apartment owners challenging the CDA’s lease cancellation.
Officials said the Capital Development Authority had leased 13 acres of land in 2005 to a company for 99 years to construct a luxury hotel.
Sources said the company instead developed and sold luxury apartments on the site. The court’s written verdict has not yet been issued.
