LONDON: Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman and UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham met at Downing Street on Wednesday to discuss bilateral relations, trade and regional security.
Burnham said the two countries were cooperating across technology, defence, security and cultural affairs. He described their trade relationship as worth about 1.7 billion pounds and said there was room to expand it.
Regional tensions and the Strait of Hormuz also dominated the meeting. Burnham thanked Oman for its efforts to find solutions in the Middle East and help restore trade through the strategic waterway.
“You can rely on our continued support and collaboration,” the British prime minister told Sultan Haitham. Sultan Haitham said Oman and Britain maintained close coordination and expressed hope that conditions in the region would return to normal.

He said Muscat was continuing its efforts towards that goal. The leaders later chaired expanded talks covering cooperation between the two countries and developments in the region and internationally.
Both sides called for stronger coordination to contain crises and support peace, security and stability. The meeting formed part of Sultan Haitham’s state visit to the United Kingdom, which ran from October 20 to October 22.
