North Korea nuclear plant images showed Kim Jong Un touring a new weapons-fuel facility as he ordered faster growth of Pyongyang’s nuclear forces, state media said Thursday.
The Korean Central News Agency said Kim inspected the plant on Wednesday and called for North Korea to expand its nuclear forces at an “exponential rate.”
Kim said North Korea had more than doubled its capacity to produce weapons-grade nuclear material over the past five years, according to KCNA. The report did not disclose the plant’s location.
Images released by North Korean state media showed Kim walking among rows of centrifuges. The Associated Press reported that the site is likely a uranium enrichment plant.
The International Atomic Energy Agency said in March that North Korea continued to operate enrichment facilities at Yongbyon and Kangson, calling the activity a serious concern.
A U.S. congressional report estimated that North Korea has enough fissile material for up to 90 nuclear warheads and may have assembled about 50.

The visit marks at least the third time since September 2024 that North Korean state media has shown Kim inspecting a nuclear material production site.
