WASHINGTON, United States: The Netanyahu-Trump meeting centred on Iran’s nuclear programme, as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held his first in-person talks with US President Donald Trump since the war began.

The closed-door Oval Office session lasted approximately 90 minutes on Tuesday, July 28. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt described the talks as “positive and productive,” according to AFP.

Netanyahu later called the meeting one of his best conversations with Trump. He said both leaders remained committed to preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

Trump described it as a “very good meeting” but disclosed no specific agreements. The White House did not publish a detailed account of the discussions.

The talks coincided with a renewed Iranian attack on US forces in the Middle East. At 5:45 p.m. EDT Tuesday, or 2:45 a.m. PKT Wednesday, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched multiple ballistic missiles, US Central Command said.

CENTCOM said its forces intercepted every missile. The command reported no casualties or damage.

The US-Israel military campaign against Iran began on February 28. Washington recently paused nearly two weeks of nightly strikes to allow negotiations with Tehran to proceed.

Trump and Netanyahu publicly differed over the direction of the conflict. Trump has pursued a diplomatic opening, while Netanyahu has pressed for continued action against Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities.

Israeli officials said the leaders also reviewed Gaza, Lebanon and a possible expansion of the Abraham Accords. No formal agreement emerged from the meeting, The Associated Press reported.
