The Philadelphia 76ers have added LeBron James and Jaylen Brown for the 2026-27 NBA Eastern Conference campaign, while the New York Knicks prepare to defend their championship.
James signed a two-year deal, while Brown arrived from the Boston Celtics in a trade that sent Paul George and draft picks to Boston. They join Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe under head coach Nick Nurse.
Philadelphia has not won the National Basketball Association (NBA) championship since 1983.
Its other additions include Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Anfernee Simons, Dean Wade and Ariel Hukporti. George’s departure was part of a broader turnover that also saw Andre Drummond and Kelly Oubre Jr. leave.
Meanwhile, New York retained much of its championship core. Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby and Karl-Anthony Towns remain with head coach Mike Brown.
The Knicks renewed deals with Jose Alvarado, Jordan Clarkson, Mohamed Diawara and Landry Shamet. However, Mitchell Robinson departed for Boston, while Drummond joined New York.
Miami made another major move, acquiring Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks. He joins Bam Adebayo in a frontcourt coached by Erik Spoelstra.
That deal sent Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Kasparas Jakucionis to Milwaukee. Bobby Portis moved to Miami, which also added Klay Thompson and Tim Hardaway Jr.

For Milwaukee, Antetokounmpo’s departure ended his 13-year tenure. Taylor Jenkins takes charge of a revised roster that includes the former Miami players alongside Myles Turner and Kyle Kuzma.
Boston begins the season with George alongside Jayson Tatum and Derrick White. Joe Mazzulla remains head coach, while Robinson adds another option at centre.
Elsewhere, Kawhi Leonard returned to the Toronto Raptors from the Los Angeles Clippers. Brandon Ingram and Gradey Dick moved in the opposite direction.
Leonard rejoins the franchise he helped lead to the 2019 championship. Toronto’s remaining core includes Scottie Barnes, RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley and Jakob Poeltl under Darko Rajakovic.

The Cleveland Cavaliers retained James Harden and Donovan Mitchell on new deals, while the Detroit Pistons extended Jalen Duren and Ausar Thompson.
Indiana’s changes include Tyrese Haliburton’s return after the injury he sustained during the 2025 Finals. The Pacers added Larry Nance Jr. and Oubre, alongside Pascal Siakam and Ivica Zubac.
In Washington, Trae Young and Anthony Davis remain central to the Wizards’ roster, with Deandre Ayton and Khris Middleton among the additions.
