Recently, a social media altercation erupted between the fans of Babar Azam, the captain of the Pakistan national cricket team, and renowned Pakistani actress Nazish Jahangir.
The controversy began during a Q&A session on Nazish’s Instagram page when she was asked if she would consider marrying Babar Azam. Nazish responded that she would politely decline such a proposal.
The comment quickly spread across social media, attracting intense criticism from Babar Azam’s fans. In response to the backlash, a statement on Nazish Jahangir’s official Instagram account suggested that those offended should regard her as a family member, implying they should refrain from personal attacks. This statement further fueled the controversy.
Nazish Jahangir later addressed the issue, clarifying that she did not author the controversial response. She firmly stated on Instagram that the contentious statement was fabricated and that such remarks do not reflect her upbringing or respect for familial values. She expressed her dismay over how quickly people can defame public figures, affecting her reputation and Babar Azam’s.
Nazish concluded by asserting her resilience in the face of online insults and trolling. She emphasized the disparity in moral and professional stature between herself and those perpetuating the negative comments, advising them to continue their behaviour as it does not impact her.
