NADRA Urges 7 Million Pakistanis to Register for CNIC

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) said that more than 7 million Pakistanis aged 18 and older have not applied for their Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs). Not having a CNIC limits access to important services like education, jobs, healthcare, and legal rights.

NADRA asked all eligible people to register at the nearest NADRA office or use the Pak ID mobile app. Parents are also asked to register their children to avoid future problems.

Many people in remote areas face difficulties registering, such as travelling long distances, not knowing about the process, or being poor. A recent report said that people without IDs find it hard to get basic services. To help, NADRA is using mobile vans and online tools to make registration easier.

A CNIC is needed for voting, opening bank accounts, travelling, and using government services. It also proves a person’s identity in emergencies, helping with safety and support. NADRA emphasised that having a CNIC is crucial for fully participating in society and the economy.

Recently, NADRA closed several service centres in Punjab because of heavy rains and flooding. The closed centres include Vanike Tarar, Hafizabad, Jalalpur Bhattian, 18 Hazari, Ahmad Nagar, Midh Ranjha, Kari Sharif, Kotli Loharan, Syedpur, Khidmat Markaz, and Depalpur. These centres will remain closed until conditions improve.

Many people still do not have a CNIC, which limits their rights and chances. NADRA is working hard to close this gap, despite challenges like natural disasters.
