Islamabad: The National Assembly on Wednesday unanimously passed a resolution expressing deep concerns over atrocities being committed against Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.
The resolution, moved by Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain, strongly condemned genocide of Rohingya Muslims and called upon United Nations to intervene to stop human rights violations in Myanmar.
The resolution urged the government to raise its voice in support of community of Rohingya Muslims.
Commending the courage of Rohingya Muslims for “bravely facing the genocidal campaign,” the resolution called upon OIC and UNO to take necessary action in the matter.
The resolution came a day after the Senate passed a similar resolution, and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif approved $5 million aid for Rohingya Muslims.
Officials said the special grant of $ 5 million in the form of food to be channeled through the World Food Programme for distribution in Rohingya camps in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.
