Karachi: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) lawmakers protested against the killing of party worker Muhammad Hashim in the Sindh Assembly on Monday.
The provincial lawmakers had earlier arrived at the Sindh Assembly wearing black arm bands to mark their protest.
During the session MQM MPA Khawaja Izhar-ul-Hasan raised the issue of Muhammad Hashim’s death and was critical of the provincial government’s performance.
The situation in the assembly became heated when MQM MPAs raised Hashim’s photograph and started chanting slogans. The MQM’s slogans were met with those from PPP lawmakers.
In order to bring the tense situation under control, Speaker Aga Siraj Durrani had to adjourn the session for ten minutes.
MQM leader, Abdul Haseeb told the media that Muhammad Hashim was arrested and shifted to an undisclosed location on May 6 when he was traveling to his residence from MQM Headuqarters.
He said Hashim’s body was recovered on Sunday night from Jamshoro and that his burial has been performed by Edhi Welfare Trust.
Meanwhile, MQM withdrew its strike given for Monday following what it termed was an assurance from DG Rangers Sindh Major General Bilal Akbar of capturing the murderers of party worker Muhammad Hashim.
DG Rangers Sindh, Major General Bilal Akbar said the murder of Muhammad Hashim will be investigated and those involved in the killing will be apprehended.
He said Muhammad Hashim’s murder is a conspiracy to undermine the city’s peace.
