The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) earlier today announced the launch of a ‘cleansing’ drive to rid the city of garbage and other “evils”.
Instead of responding to barrage of criticism and allegations levelled by former senior MQM leader Dr Sagheer Ahmed earlier yesterday, MQM leader Dr Farooq Sattar relied on innuendos during the press conference when asked to comment on latest developments.
He said the party would use all the resources to remove heaps of garbage from every part of the city. “We also have services of a doctor on our disposal, ” he said while mentioning party’s candidate for deputy mayor Dr Arshad Wohra
“We are launching cleansing campaign from March 10 on the instructions of Altaf Hussain,” he said, adding that party workers, councilors, chairmen and lawmakers would participate in the “I own Karachi” campaign.
Dr Farooq Sattar said apart from removing garbage the campaign would focus on covering manholes and plantation of trees in the city. He said a similar campaign would be launched in Hyderabad and Mirpur Khan within a few days.
