Former cricket star Mohammad Yousuf announced his resignation from Pakistan’s cricket selection committee, citing “personal reasons.”
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi introduced a revamped men’s national selection committee in March. This committee, consisting of seven members, was designed to operate without a chairman, granting equal powers to each member. Naqvi explained that decisions would be reached by a majority aiming for more robust outcomes.
The committee’s structure underwent another change in July following Pakistan’s poor performance in the T20 World Cup in May, which led to the dismissals of Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq.
Yousuf posted his resignation on the social media platform X, expressing his pride in serving the team. “It has been a profound privilege to contribute to Pakistan cricket’s growth and success,” he stated. He also voiced his continued support and good wishes for the team’s pursuit of greatness.
The PCB confirmed Yousuf’s decision, stating his intention to focus on other significant roles within the board. “The PCB is deeply grateful for Mohammad Yousuf’s contributions and looks forward to his ongoing involvement as the batting coach at the High-Performance Centre,” a PCB statement noted.
Yousuf, who recently coached the Pakistan U-19 team to a third-place finish at the ICC U-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024 in South Africa, was appointed the national U-19 team’s head coach last November by the PCB.
