The ICC lifted Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz’s provisional suspension after he served 2½ months for an Anti-Doping Code violation involving Carboxy-THC. He must complete a rehabilitation programme.

The International Cricket Council said Nawaz accepted a three-month period of ineligibility, backdated to May 1, 2026, when he began a voluntary provisional suspension.

The sanction will be reduced to one month if Nawaz completes an ICC-approved substance-abuse treatment programme. Because he has already served 2½ months, he will face no further ineligibility if he satisfies that requirement, according to the ICC’s July 17 decision.

Nawaz tested positive for Carboxy-THC after Pakistan’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 match against the Netherlands at Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on February 7. Pakistan won the match by three wickets.

The ICC classified Carboxy-THC as a “Substance of Abuse” under its Anti-Doping Code. Nawaz admitted the violation and demonstrated that the substance was used outside of competition and was unrelated to sporting performance.

The governing body also disqualified Nawaz’s individual records from the Netherlands match and his subsequent appearances through May 1. The official match record shows that Nawaz scored six runs in Pakistan’s successful chase.
