A formal complaint has been registered against Malik Tariq Awan, a Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), who assaulted a servant at the guest house in Peshawar owned by Asif Khan, a Member of the National Assembly (MNA) from the Sunni Ittehad Council, which is supported by Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI).
The First Information Report (FIR) details that Awan, accompanied by an entourage of approximately 20 individuals, allegedly orchestrated the attack, subjecting the victim to severe physical abuse at the guest house. Following the complaint, the police swiftly arrested five individuals linked to the incident based on the allegations presented in MNA Asif Khan’s report.
Superintendent of Police for Faqeerabad, Usama Amin Cheema, clarified that there was no gunfire during the altercation. He explained that the confrontation led to vocal exchanges and slogan chanting by both parties’ affiliates, heightening tensions at the scene.
In a related development, the secretary of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly visited Malik Tariq Awan at his residence to check on his condition post-incident. During this visit, MPA Awan elaborated that the police’s presence at his residence, Tariq Awan Qilla, was not for a raid but to record his statement concerning the events and to ensure his security. This incident has sparked considerable attention and raised concerns regarding the conduct and interactions of political figures in the region.
