An unusual event unfolded at New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido, Japan, following the disappearance of two scissors from a shop near the boarding gate. This led to widespread flight cancellations and delays.

A British news agency reported a missing pair of scissors at New Chitose Airport led to 36 flight cancellations and delays for over 200 others. Learn more about the disruption.

In response to the potential security threat, airport authorities initiated a comprehensive secondary screening process for all passengers, which lasted approximately two hours. This precautionary measure resulted in the cancellation of 36 flights and delays to over 200 others.

The missing scissors were eventually located near the original shop the following day, though no additional details regarding their recovery were disclosed. The incident coincided with the peak of Japan’s annual government holidays, exacerbating the situation with heightened passenger traffic at the airport.
