Lauren Canaday, a woman from the US, recently shared her extraordinary near-death experience on Reddit during an ‘Ask Me Anything’ session.
On Reddit, she described how she was declared “clinically dead” for 24 minutes following sudden cardiac arrest. Her memory of the previous week was lost after regaining consciousness. Canaday attributed her survival to her husband, who promptly performed CPR and called emergency services.
After being rushed to the hospital, Canaday remained in a coma for two days before waking up. She spent nine days in the ICU, where she was declared “cognitively intact” with no visible brain damage on MRIs despite experiencing a prolonged epileptic seizure post-resuscitation. The recovery is attributed to what is known clinically as the Lazarus effect or autoresuscitation, a rare phenomenon where a person seemingly returns from the dead.
Hi, I was clinically dead for 24 minutes. Ask me anything!

Responding to users’ curiosity on Reddit, Canaday shared insights into her experience, including the peace she felt after waking up. Contrary to common perceptions, she did not experience her life flashing before her eyes. Her case is notable as, according to the New York Post, most individuals who undergo such experiences do not survive long afterwards. However, Canada is among the few who have made a full recovery.
