KARACHI, Sindh: Ahmed Bharday, business partner of deceased businessman Mir Raza Ali, met Raza’s family for about three hours on Friday night following a direction from the judicial commission probing the case.

Bharday arrived at the family’s residence around 8:30 pm and left around 11:30 pm on September 19. The commission had asked him to meet the family and address questions they wanted answered.

His parents and uncle accompanied him to the residence but were not allowed inside, according to the report. They remained outside while Bharday met the family alone.

The meeting followed Bharday’s second appearance before the one-member judicial commission headed by Sindh High Court Justice Omar Sial. The commission had asked him to submit a written statement after speaking directly with Raza’s family.

The commission has separately raised serious questions over the initial police investigation. During proceedings, it questioned former investigating officer Shabbir Laghari about missing physical evidence, the handling of CCTV footage and his personal custody of post-mortem samples.

Justice Sial also questioned how investigative responsibilities were divided between Ferozabad and Gulistan-e-Jauhar police and asked what evidentiary value material collected outside the investigating officer’s direct supervision would carry in court.

The commission has summoned the Sindh director general of health, a medico-legal officer, employees of Raza and other individuals for September 21. It has also sought written responses from Karachi police chief Azad Khan and investigation team head DIG Amir Farooqui by September 24.

The judicial commission was constituted to examine the circumstances surrounding Mir Raza Ali’s death, assess possible negligence in the investigation and recommend any further forensic, legal or departmental action.
