“Minions & Monsters” has become the highest-rated film in the “Despicable Me” and “Minions” franchise after earning an 89% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes.
The animated film opened on July 1 and now ranks above all six previous films in the franchise.
The first “Despicable Me” film, released in 2010, previously held the franchise record with an 80% critics’ score. “Despicable Me 2” scored 75%, while “Minions: The Rise of Gru” received 70%.
Rotten Tomatoes called “Minions & Monsters” the franchise’s “most roundly enjoyable entry yet.”
The review aggregator also described the film as “an affectionate and charming sendup of moviemaking magic.”
Pierre Coffin directed and wrote the film with Brian Lynch. The voice cast includes Allison Janney, Christoph Waltz, Jeff Bridges, Jesse Eisenberg and Zoey Deutch. Critic Clint Worthington gave the film 3.5 stars out of 4.
TheWrap critic Drew Taylor said the film could be the series’s best entry since the first “Despicable Me.”
