A 42-year-old man randomly stabbed 11 people at a Walmart in Traverse City, Michigan, using a folding knife, according to police. Six of the victims are in critical condition, and the suspect is in custody.

Grand Traverse County Sheriff Michael Shea stated, “The attack appears random, with no predetermined victims.” The incident began near the checkout area, where the suspect, a Michigan resident, acted alone. Eyewitness Julia Martell told The New York Times that she saw the man stabbing and pushing people in the pharmacy section, describing the scene as having “blood everywhere.” Citizens helped in apprehending the suspect.

Munson Healthcare reported that six men and five women were injured, with six in critical condition and five in serious condition. Three victims underwent surgery, and the hospital is coordinating with the families. Updates are expected as treatment continues.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer posted on X: “Our thoughts are with the victims and community reeling from this brutal act.” FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino confirmed agents are supporting the investigation.

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the motive, with no evidence suggesting that the victims were targeted. The attack follows a pattern of rare but high-profile retail violence, like a 2023 Ohio Walmart shooting, per CNN. The FBI’s involvement ensures a thorough investigation, with updates pending.

The attack highlights safety concerns in public spaces, prompting calls for enhanced security. As Traverse City grapples with the aftermath, community support and federal aid aim to aid recovery. The random Walmart stabbing in Michigan injured 11, with a suspect detained. Official responses and community solidarity underscore efforts to address this tragedy.
